Google rescue

An Australian journalist was captured in Iraq by local terrorists. Unconvinced of his claims to be a journalist and not an operative of the CIA or working for U.S. contractors, they Googled his name and found corroborating evidence that he was indeed an independent Australian journalist, and they released him. It's hard to think of a more central role in society than that attained by this search engine.
